 ture (CI) Research 4 Social Change at The University of Texas at Austin (U
 T) Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) aims to engage students historic
 ally excluded from careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathem
 atics (STEM) in research projects that are focused on social change.  This
  nine-week summer program places students in a paid full-time research pos
 ition working directly with researchers at UT.  TACC is a leader in advanc
 ed computing and provides researchers access to supercomputers, tools, and
  support services. The REU activities are designed to leverage that knowle
 dge and teach students computational competencies while helping students d
 evelop a sense of belonging in computing. \n\nIn this presentation, we sum
 marize strategies that boosted student engagement and retention in the pro
 gram. We also detail our efforts and outcomes for training and placement o
 f students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.\n\nSession Format: Re
