Soon NERSC will begin deploying a new GPU-accelerated supe rcomputer called “Perlmutter” featuring next-generation AMD Milan CPUs, NV IDIA Ampere A100 GPUs, a novel high-speed interconnect, and an all-flash f ile system. The NESAP program will enable new scientific advancements usin g Perlmutter by working with scientists to exploit cutting-edge computatio nal science techniques. It has focus areas in machine learning, data analy sis, and simulation.\n\nNESAP for Learning (N4L): focuses on developing an d implementing cutting-edge machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) s olutions to improve scientific discovery potential on experimental or simu lation data or improving HPC applications by replacing parts of the softwa re stack or algorithms with ML/DL solutions.\n\nNESAP for Data (N4D): addr esses data-intensive science pipelines that process massive datasets from experimental and observational science (EOS) facilities like synchrotron l ight sources, telescopes, microscopes, particle accelerators, or genome se quencers. The goal is seamless integration and data flow between EOS facil ities and supercomputing resources to enable scalable real-time data analy tics.\n\nNESAP for Simulation (N4S): Cutting-edge simulation of complex ph ysical phenomena requires increasing amounts of computational resources du e to increasing model sizes, parameter space searches, and inclusion of ad ditional physics for higher fidelity.
